Kumadori is a special make-up technique used in the Kabuki theater. On the white oshiroi base, Kumadori exaggerates facial lines to produce dramatic animal or supernatural masks. The colors express the character’s nature, for example, red lines indicates passion/heroism. In this class, the instructor will paint a model before the audience to show the Kumadori make-up techniques. The instructor, Mr. Houzan Tachibana is a Japanese dancer, producer and stage director. He started to appear on stage, in TV programs and movies in his childhood and at the age of 17, he started his career as Kabuki actor, apprenticed to Chu-sha Ichikawa the Eighth. After the passing of his master Chu-sha, he decided to devote to Japanese dancing. Currently, he is involved in a wide range of activities including direction of a Japanese workshop where participants can enjoy Kabuki/dancing/Japanese traditional arts from all angles. http://en.souke-tachibanaryu.jp/
